Buy a carbon offset gift for family members or friends for Christmas to help fund a 7-kilowatt solar and Tesla Powerwall 2 battery system to go onto Gateway?s roof. Gateway is a 25-year-old not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting families in the outer western suburbs and Blue Mountains (gatewayfamilyservices.org.au).

The resulting cheaper power bills will allow Gateway to divert financial resources to their core mission of making families stronger.

Your gift will also help fund a 10-megawatt biomass power plant Ludhiana district of Punjab state in India, managed under the auspices of the United Nations. This biomass energy project will generate electricity (instead of using coal) by combusting organic matter, rice husks and crop residues.

By buying this package you are gifting the recipient with the knowledge that they have eliminated four tonnes of their personal carbon emissions and helped people struggling in Australia and in India.

The offset package includes two components. The first part incorporates the United Nations Convention on Climate Change?s program called the Clean Development Mechanism. This is a worldwide carbon offset program promoting carbon reduction activities in developing countries. Offsets raised via this program are recognised globally as an official alternative to acquiring carbon permits under emissions reduction schemes, including the EU ETS.

The second component of Ecoprofit?s offset package is the innovative part. Carbon offsetting is invariably a remote process, such as investing in Clean Development Mechanism programs (as discussed above). We wondered how we could help local community not-for-profit organisations reduce their energy costs and give them a progressive renewables and/or energy efficiency profile. Ecoprofit decided that $1 from every carbon offset it sold would be contributed towards these type of projects.
